Candles by Location: New York City

New York – the city that never sleeps. Bustling cars, bright nightlife, and the energizing work environment, the city is always on its feet and on the go. The nostalgia of walking down Fifth Avenue, and the different smells and sounds that encapsulate you as you pass by new faces. This feeling of being in the Big Apple reminded us of the feeling of Driftwood + Juniper. This candle has notes of driftwood, vanilla, incense, and lavender, giving an invigorating musky scent, that we oftentimes recommend for the work office. It is also in a clean, matte-black vessel, that reminded us much of the chic color scheme associated with NYC. Inspired by our nostalgia and the aroma, here are some places we recommend visiting or reminiscing about.

DOVER STREET MARKET (DSM)

Dover Street Market is a multi-brand retailer that sells different new collections of high-end and designer brands. From Raf Simmons to Comme des Garçons to Balenciaga, DSM has it all. It’s originally located in London but has locations in New York City, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Beijing, and Singapore. Even if you don’t intend to buy anything, the store inspires a lot of creativity in fashion, as well as being surrounded by a hip aesthetic. Explore their Instagram (@doverstreetmarketnewyork), for fashion inspiration or see the newest collections from top designers.

THE HIGH LINE

Overlooking the west side of Manhattan, the High Line is a 1.45-mile-long public park made to help reimagine architecture in New York City. It was originally a historic elevated rail line, however, it has now been shaped as not only a park, but a place to view visual art, watch performances, dine, and a spot to mingle with friends and family. The park includes many viewpoints and features, perfect for a picture, or a place to just unwind and enjoy. Explore The High Line website on specific features and for more information.

MACY’S HERALD SQUARE

Macy’s Herald Square is the flagship, a retailer's primary location, of Macy’s department stores. Especially with the holiday season coming up, Macy’s Herald Square is the site to see during this time of the year. The holiday display windows are always decked out with different themes, a tradition started by R.H Macy. From the iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade to the Christmas displays, Herald Square is always an iconic spot to visit in New York City.

SOHO

Located in lower Manhattan, SoHo has become the place for the newest fashion trends, art galleries, and the ultimate shopping location in NYC. Some recommended clothing stores include Acne, Anthom, Miu Miu, Opening Ceremony, and Rag & Bone. Not only are there clothing stores, but browse the other stores for interior design, or grab a quick bite with many dining options close by.

CENTRAL PARK

A name iconic in its own right, Central Park is the most visited urban park in the United States. Located in the Upper West and East side of Manhattan, it has become the spot for many people to relax, enjoy, and socialize. Some main attractions of the park include a view of the lake, Sheep Meadow, Delacorte Theater, and the Central Park Zoo. The park is filled with life, as the famous Shakespeare in the Park is also held here, along with other live performances.

These are just a few of the spots we love visiting in New York City, and some spots that encompass our overall experience of NYC. Smelling Driftwood + Juniper brings us back to that fast-paced New York energy.
