Christmas Movies By Candle

Whether you love them or hate them, Christmas movies are an absolute must this time of year. There’s nothing like settling in for a movie you know by heart, even though you only watch it once every 365 days. With that in mind, we wanted to suggest some Christmas films to watch with the new launch of our Holiday Collection candles. Let’s delve on in!

Frankincense + Myrrh

Derived from the tale of the three wise men delivering gifts, our Frankincense + Myrrh candle is an immediate classic, which is why we feel the need to pair this candle with some classic Christmas movies. First is A Christmas Carol, a story over a century old with almost just as many iterations. Nothing quite beats the eeriness of the story building up to a heart-warming finish of an old grouch finally softening his heart, just a little. Our favorite versions include the 1988 Scrooged with Bill Murray and the 1999 A Christmas Carol with Jean-Luc Picard. Both versions can be found on Amazon Prime Video and A Christmas Carol (1999) can also be found on Hulu.

Spiced Pear + Whiskey

Our Spiced Pear + Whiskey candle merges tradition with a little bit of spice and modern flair, so we’ve paired this candle with two Christmas movies that do the same: A Christmas Story (1983) and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989). Both movies are widely considered classics today, but neither follow a traditional Christmas movie story line, with adult humor and unconventional perspectives. For that reason, these movies pair perfectly with our Spice Pear + Whiskey candle, since our candle smells like Christmas with a twist. Both movies can be found on Amazon Prime Video and A Christmas Story (1983) can also be found on Hulu.

Peppermint + Cocoa Shavings

Ah, the smell of hot chocolate, peppermint, and childhood glee. That’s what our Peppermint + Cocoa Shavings candle smells like. We wanted to tap into your inner child with this candle and think our movie choices should do the same. The best Christmas movies to play while this candle is lit are Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (1964) and Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000). We specifically chose the clay animation version of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer because of its childhood innocence and timeless quality. In essence, this film is full of the simple delights that have pervaded through decades. Likewise, the 2000 version of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas maintains the simple joys of the original but adapts it so that the moral of the story has more meaning today. Just like our Peppermint + Cocoa Shavings candle, these films bring back the excitement of Christmas. Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) can be found on Amazon Prime Video and rented on YouTube. While Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (1964) is a bit harder to find, you may be able to live-stream it on CBS or find the full version on YouTube.

Whether you’re hanging your stockings by the chimney with care or trying to stay awake for the sound of hooves on the roof, we hope you have one of our candles burning by your side and a festive film playing in the background. Tis the season to be merry!
