Pairing Podcasts with Candles

Whether it's on our way to work or washing the dishes, we have been loving listening to podcasts. Podcasts are great for learning something new on the go or an outlet to zone out to when you’re going about your day.  Every podcast has their own quirks, focus, and format, which is why picking the perfect podcast for you, is a very personable thing. In the same sense of different podcasts giving different styles, the same can be said for candles and each of their different aromas, whether it is more of a musk, floral, citrus, etc. To pair with your next podcast session, we compiled a list of podcasts organized by focus that we love to listen to, and the different candles we would pair with that podcast.

EDUCATIONAL PODCASTS:

Want to learn something new regarding the news, technology, business, or just random facts? Educational podcasts provide listeners with a new source of knowledge. We would pair educational podcasts with our Driftwood + Juniper, with notes of driftwood, lavender, and lemon, for a musky scent often recommended for the office. For daily news coverage, we have been loving The Daily from The New York Times. Twenty minutes a day, five days a week, hosted by New York Times’s Michael Barbaro, The Daily has grown to be a fan favorite for its news coverage. We have been also loving 99% Invisible, a narrative formatted podcast, teaching its viewers on architecture and design in the modern day and age. For those interested in learning more about business and the economy, we have been loving listening to Freakonomics every morning. Every episodes addresses a certain aspect relating to a socioeconomic issues, and provides an interesting conversation to think about.

LIFESTYLE + HEALTH PODCASTS

We always say that lifestyle and health podcasts are like self-help books but in a podcast format. Whether it's on nutrition, your mindset, and general piece of advice on life, we love listening to these podcasts to self reflect and gain new perspectives. We would pair lifestyle podcasts with our Lemon Verbena + Thyme, with notes of lemon, eucalyptus, and lavender for a calm yet invigorating environment. For a podcast on learning more about healthy eating, we recommend Dishing Up Nutrition, to learn more about food and its interconnected relationship to everything in people’s lives, explained through licensed health professionals. For a podcast to learn more about personal growth, we recommend listening to Happier with Gretchen Rubin. Gretchen Rubin provides her insight on how to be more happier people. With a mix of personal anecdotes, Gretchen Rubin provides a deep look into human nature and happiness.

COMEDY PODCASTS

Want something lighthearted and to start your morning off with a laugh? Comedy podcasts are a great way to listen to something not as dense and more fun. To match this lightheartedness, we recommend pairing it with our Spiced Pear + Whiskey, with notes of Anjou Pear, Cinnamon, and Brown Sugar, for a unique and whimsical aroma. We have been enjoying It’s Not a Book Club Podcast, where three south London hosts unravel and analyze books, but in a real and humorous manner. We also have been enjoying The Receipts, a no-filter conversation between three hosts about relationships, work, and everything in between. In a brutally honest and hilarious manner, you’ll be thoroughly entertained.

STORYTELLING POCASTS

We love listening to stories, whether it is about fantasy, true crime, or someone’s own life experiences, people are always intrigued to hear a good story. To set the perfect environment for the time you listen to a storytelling podcast, we recommend our Mandarin + Resin, a sweet and invoking candle, with notes of mandarin, orchid, and jasmine, creating a mood-boosting aroma. We have been loving Spotify’s Dissect music podcast, which provides interesting insight and the stories behind popular albums. Curious to learn more about how the top entrepreneurs got where they are today? We recommend How I Built This with Guy Raz from NPR, who uses a narrative like format to tell the stories of different companies and how they were able to develop their companies. Fan of greek mythology? Spotify’s Mythology, tells greek mythology stories in an exciting and insightful way with analysis as well as history behind each myth.

Podcasts are a great alternative for options to listen to when multitasking. With a diverse range in topics, format, and length, there is bound to be a podcast for you.
